Welcome from the Provost
Welcome to Georgia Southern University!
As the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Georgia Southern, I have the privilege of working with our excellent faculty to guide the curriculum and scholarship here at the University.
In every decision we make to that end, we value student success as the most important factor. At Georgia Southern, we believe there is no greater benchmark for our success as an institution than a graduate with a great career. For our students to reach that goal, they must have first-hand exposure through internships, co-ops and research.
By sending our students into regional businesses and industries, we integrate our community and our region into the student experience. Keeping close ties with these regional partners allows us to respond to their workforce needs while we give our students unparalleled training in the field.
In addition, we give students a wealth of undergraduate research opportunities, which connect scholarship with real-world solutions our community can understand. Undergraduates work alongside our faculty in research which has gained national and international recognition, raising our reputation for excellence and serious scholarship.
This scholarship includes the liberal arts, for which I am a devoted advocate. The liberal arts and humanities provide our graduates with valuable skills — creativity, imagination and communication skills that can’t be duplicated by even the most sophisticated machines.
Georgia Southern offers our students a world of opportunities to excel, to pursue their curiosity guided by world-class teacher-scholars who are creating significant research and scholarship.
It’s an honor to serve this dynamic University, and I hope you’ll explore all the opportunities we provide to help our students succeed.

Academic Affairs Mission Statement
Academic Affairs has as its mission the responsibility for oversight of the University’s distinctive roles in teaching, scholarship, and service. It promotes and assures a University culture of engagement that bridges theory with practice in all teaching and learning environments and endeavors, extends the learning environment beyond the classroom, and promotes student growth and life success. Academic Affairs assures that Georgia Southern’s nationally accredited academic programs in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional studies prepare a diverse and select undergraduate and graduate student population for leadership and service as world citizens. Supporting the actualization of this mission, the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic administrative office for the University. The office works closely with the Provost and an extensive group of campus colleagues to set academic policies, implement academic strategic plans, promote and support campus-wide academic initiatives, and provide oversight for budgetary and development priorities.
