        • Learning is a messy process that can be tricky to measure, track, and improve. • Clear, realistic, and measurable learning outcomes are the foundation of any successful course. In this workshop, we will consider how course outcomes can be integrally connected to larger learning goals of the department, college, or institution. Linking outcomes effectively creates synergy and collaboration in the teaching and learning environment. Faculty will examine and evaluate course outcomes and gain insights into creating powerful learning connections across the curriculum.

        • Do you want to be able to provide credible evidence of effective teaching for use in annual reviews and tenure and promotion dossiers? Do you want to improve your instruction while simultaneously targeting students’ areas of weakness? In this workshop, you will be introduced to a process that not only allows you to target your teaching to students’ areas of weakness, but also provides strong evidence of your commitment to teaching for annual reviews, tenure, and promotion. Reflect on instructional strategies and evidence of student learning as you evolve your instructional strategies to engage students in effective learning relevant to course outcomes.

  • Tests that Teach: Objective Tests as Learning Opportunities

        • Boost students’ understanding and long-term retention through learning-focused multiple-choice objective tests. This workshop will acquaint faculty with recent research and best practices for writing test questions that enhance student learning. Following a few simple principles can short circuit the cram-pass-forget testing cycle. In addition, learn how to plan test content that supports course outcomes and gain some tools for checking up on the effectiveness of your test.
