Graduate Writing Boot Camp

The Academic Success Center and Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health are working to coordinate two Graduate Writing Boot Camps for students in the College of Graduate Studies for the Fall 2022 semester. The boot camps will take place on Friday, September 16, 2022 and Friday, October 7, 2022 from 10:00am – 4:00pm in the Henderson Library Tutoring Area, with an option for distance students to join via Zoom.

The boot camps will offer graduate students a designated, distraction-free, and quiet space to complete their assignments and/or work on thesis and dissertations. Lunch will be provided for the first 25 registrants, courtesy of the College of Graduate Studies.

COGS students are encouraged to complete the registration form early to reserve their seat.

Planner Resource for New Students

The Academic Success Center and First and Second Year Experience linked arms to provide planners for incoming students. This planner resource includes a variety of calendar layouts to expose students to some of the options available to them. These will be distributed to all incoming first-year students during the Georgia Southern Convocation ceremonies on August 8 (Statesboro Campus) and August 9 (Armstrong Campus).

The remaining planners will be available in various Student Support offices, including but not limited to Academic Advisement Centers, Academic Success Center, Office of First and Second Year Experience, and Student Athlete Services.

Students who would like to further discuss strategies for calendaring, organization, and time management are encouraged to consider signing up for an upcoming academic skills workshop or 1:1 consultation with our staff; more information is linked here. Additionally, students are encouraged to take a peek at our printable time management resources, linked here.

2021 – 2022

Graduate Writing Boot Camp

The Academic Success Center and Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health teamed up in Spring 2022 to coordinate a Graduate Writing Boot Camp for students in the College of Graduate Studies. The boot camp took place on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 10:00am – 4:00pm in the Henderson Library Tutoring Area, with an option for distance students to join via Zoom.

The Boot Camp offered graduate students a designated, distraction-free, and quiet space to complete their assignments and/or work on thesis and dissertations. Lunch and swag items were provided, courtesy of the College of Graduate Studies.

We have plans to continue the partnership and facilitate additional Graduate Writing Boot Camps for students in the College of Graduate Studies throughout the Fall 2022 semester, so stay tuned for more!

Empowered to Succeed Workshop Series

The Academic Success Center linked arms with Dr. Ha Nguyen, Inclusive Excellence Faculty Fellow with the Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE), in the creation and facilitation of the Empowered to Succeed Workshop Series. This informative and interactive workshop series equipped students with skills to enhance their future academic and professional success.

There were a total of 8 workshops in the series, hosted between August 2021 – April 2022. The series drew 159 unique students throughout the academic year. Boxed lunches from Blue Tie Catering were provided to all attendees, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

Study with the Sisters

The Academic Success Center’s Peer Programs Team hosted an event for Sisters with Vision in March 2022. Throughout the event, Peer Tutors were available to provide on-site tutoring as well as professional study tips.

We are excited to work with the Office of Multicultural Affairs to host more events like this in the future!

High School Dual Enrollment Testing

The Academic Success Center’s Testing Services partners with the Office of Admissions to administer the ACCUPLACER exam for dual enrollment at the area high schools by request and administered 168 exams. Testing at the high school eliminates the need for the high school student to drive to the campus to take their ACCUPLACER exam to be admitted for dual enrollment. Through this partnership, the Office of Admissions works with the high school counselors to ensure the students who are scheduled to test all have submitted their applications and assist Testing Services in administering the exam at the high school.

Testing Services works directly with the school counselor to select the testing date and time and oversees all the processes to administer the exam at the high school. To learn more about Dual Enrollment at Georgia Southern and to apply for admissions, use this link and select Prospective Students. High schools interested in offering an onsite Accuplacer exam, please contact Testing Services to make arrangements.
