Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
Welcome to the portal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) at Georgia Southern. SoTL programs are sponsored, supported, and facilitated by Georgia Southern’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE).
What is SoTL?
For faculty engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)
“…the work of the classroom [becomes] a site for inquiry, asking and answering questions about students’ learning in ways that can improve one’s own classroom and also advance the larger profession of teaching” (Huber and Hutchings, 2005).
SoTL at Georgia Southern University
One of the most significant ways in which the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) can help advance professional development is through supporting faculty research in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). The CTE supports SoTL through
- annual Outstanding SoTL Scholar and SoTL Fellowships,
- SoTL learning communities
- International Journal on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ijSoTL), and
- SoTL Commons conference.
Faculty from around the world present research findings at the annual SoTL Commons Conference hosted by Georgia Southern.
The SoTL Leadership Team is comprised of Georgia Southern faculty who are actively engaged in SoTL at the local, national, and international level. Its primary purpose is to collaborate with the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) in guiding, supporting, and assessing the “SoTL at Georgia Southern” initiative.
