Georgia Southern University’s Quality Enhancement Plan Think in Ink is a writing and thinking initiative that weaves crucial communication and critical thinking skills into a wide range of disciplines through writing and thinking-enriched courses.
- The initiative began in 2015 with only 14 faculty teaching 14 classes which served 1,200 students.
- In the 2017-2018 academic year, the initiative involved 166 faculty teaching 89 classes serving 9,000 students.
- The initiative involves 26 student writing fellows — undergraduate students trained to work with faculty and students in the classroom, helping other students improve their writing.
- Students have indicated that these courses have helped them organize their thoughts better, increase their creativity and ideas, and most notably makes them feel more confident in a subject.
- Professors report noticeable, significant improvements in students’ writing skills, communication and persuasion skills.
- Think in Ink helps provide students the skills to analyze, synthesize and communicate data and information in a wide range of settings — all of which are significant skills valuable in the workforce for both initial employment and advancement.
