Georgia Southern University Mission Statement

At Georgia Southern University, our learner-centered culture prepares us to think, lead, teach, and serve. We value collaboration, academic excellence, discovery and innovation, integrity, openness and inclusion, and sustainability. We promote talent and economic development to enhance quality of life through scholarly pursuits, cultural enrichment, student life, and community engagement across distinctive campuses. Our success is measured by the global impact of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Academic Affairs Mission Statement

Academic Affairs has as its mission the responsibility for oversight of the University’s distinctive roles in teaching, scholarship, and service. It promotes and assures a University culture of engagement that bridges theory with practice in all teaching and learning environments and endeavors, extends the learning environment beyond the classroom, and promotes student growth and life success. Academic Affairs assures that Georgia Southern’s nationally accredited academic programs in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional studies prepare a diverse and select undergraduate and graduate student population for leadership and service as world citizens. Supporting the actualization of this mission, the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic administrative office for the University. The office works closely with the Provost and an extensive group of campus colleagues to set academic policies, implement academic strategic plans, promote and support campus-wide academic initiatives, and provide oversight for budgetary and development priorities.
