Universidad Anahuac Mayab is a private institution of higher education located in Merida, Mexico. In the capital of the Yucatan state, Merida is close to beaches, historical and archaeological ruins, and many nature preserves. Eligibility: Students should have completed 45 credit hours at the time of application and have an institutional GPA of 2.5. In order to complete coursework taught in Spanish, students should have completed at least 4 semesters of university-level Spanish or be able to demonstrate and equivalent level of skill.

Accommodations: UAM offers a wide variety of accommodations options in order to meet a wide variety of student needs. Campus-owned residence halls are available, as is a home-stay options arranged by the university for students looking to improve their Spanish and immerse themselves in the local culture. Highly independent students may want to take advantage of the option to rent their own apartment, and these accommodations are managed through a portfolio by the Foreign Student Care Center Staff. Meal options: UAM does not offer a meal plan, but does offer a variety of cafeterias located on the campus. Otherwise, as a major city, Merida offers a wide variety of restaurants and grocery shops in the vicinity of the campus where students can purchase inexpensive meals and food items.
Estimated Cost of Participation: Students pay their tuition, fees, and medical insurance costs to Georgia Southern, and can access their financial aid while studying abroad. How to Apply
In order to apply to participate on the exchange to UAM, students will need to carefully complete and submit the forms/information listed below. All materials should be submitted to the Office of International Programs & Services by the posted deadline. Students are encouraged to submit all items together.

- 500-750 word essay of motivation/educational intent
- Two letters of recommendation from a professor or academic advisor
- One-page resume
- Official copy of your Georgia Southern transcript

- Copy of your passport information page
- One official passport photo
- Copy of your current course schedule
Students who submit all materials by the deadline and meet the eligibility requirements will be invited to the Office of International Programs & Services for a brief interview before committee. After being accepted to participate, students will need to complete a Health Certificate and other obligatory forms.
How to Search for Courses
To find available courses, students can use the links to either search for courses in English or courses in Spanish. To review offerings in English, simply click on the most recent term listed. Links to course descriptions for all programs of study can be found here.
Once they are admitted to UAM, students will be assigned an academic advisor who will send the most updated list of course offerings and assist them with the registration process.
Understanding Grades and Credits
Students should plan to take the equivalent of at least 12 Georgia Southern credit hours while abroad. At UAM, students should pay attention to the number of classroom hours per semester., Courses are typically listed at 6 credits each, provide 45 hours of instruction per semester, and equal to 3 credit hours at Georgia Southern credit. So students should plan to take at least 4 – 6 courses while attending Anahuac Mayab – which is a full time load – during the semester.
