Service Learning in Costa Rica


Join Professors Nancy Henderson and Haley Worst on a week- long trip to to learn more about Costa Rica’s  Healthcare System through active participation in assisting medical providers deliver care to patients while taking in breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean! Students will gain an insight to the inner workings of the Costa Rican medical system and cultural differences in patient care.

APPLICATION FORM (Deadline December 15, 2019)

*There is no course associated with this Service Learning trip*

Students should possess at least a 2.5 institutional GPA at the time of application, with no active disciplinary record.  All students must be fully admitted to the institution, and at least 18 years of age by the program departure date.

Dates of Program:
May 10– May 17, 2019 (Summer Term A)

Program Cost:
Includes: Roundtrip airfare to Costa Rica; all regional and local transportation; lodging for the duration of the program; breakfast and lunch;  tour and excursion fees; farewell dinner; and a medical travel insurance plan.

Additional Costs:  Dinner; incidental and personal expenses.

Nature and Purpose of the Program:
This program will provide participating students the ability to have first hand experience assisting health care providers with patient treatment while learning more about the Costa Rican healthcare system on a first-hand basis!

Example Excursions and Activities:

  • Manual Antonia National Park
  • Experience assisting health care professionals deliver services to patients at the Centro Medico in Quepos, Costa Rica

Refund information:
Once accepted to the program, all deposits and program payments are non-refundable.
