North Woodlands
The North Woodlands trail loops from the gazebo, through the Kennedy Outdoor Classroom, and through forest typical of a dry coastal plain habitat. Long leaf pine (Pinus palustris), Magnolias (Magnolia grandiflora), and Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginaiana) create a canopy for plantings of leucothoe (Agarista populifolia), coral-bean (Erythina herbacea), saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), and blueberry (Vaccinium myrsinites). A branch of the North Woodlands Trail leads to the Garden’s Endangered Plant area, where specimens of Georgia Plume (Elliotia racemosa) and Florida Torreya (Torreya taximosa) thrive.
