Basic Birding

Dr. Ray Chandler

Vertebrate biologist Ray Chandler will share everything you need to know to get started bird watching.  He’ll provide helpful hints and tips on everything from binoculars to the best field guides, and discuss some basics about birds.

Dr. Chandler, who has been an avid birder since the age of 10, is a professor in the Department of Biology at Georgia Southern University.  He and his wife Michelle, also a GSU biologist, love to travel.  They recently returned from Columbia, which has more species of birds than any other country.  He is excited to share his stories and tips with you.
