About FYE 1220

Peer leaders are required to commit to the full FYE 1220 course. FYE 1220 is a two hour credit, meeting twice a week, for the full semester. Peer leaders are placed in one of the two course options listed below. This placement is based on the peer leader’s course schedule, interest(s), and goals.

Thematic Course
Faculty develop a theme that students select based on their interests. Students in this course apply the information literacy outcomes by researching the theme.

Linked Course
FYE 1220 is linked to a core curriculum course. Students are enrolled in both courses, and apply the information literacy outcomes through a research project in the core course. Peer leaders matched in this course option are only required to assist in FYE 1220. However, if the peer leader wishes to assist in both FYE 1220 and the linked core class, they should:

  • Have an agreement with the instructor teaching the linked course
  • Understand that First-Year Experience will not facilitate anything outside of FYE 1220, i.e. training
2019 Peer Leader Supervisor Timeline

Six hours of regular peer leader supervisor training and one hour of Folio training is required for ALL peer leader supervisors. Students who cannot make it to training sessions or meetings due to other requirements must (1) inform First-Year Experience of their upcoming absence and (2) schedule a make-up training date and (3) complete training makeup work BEFORE attending the make-up training meeting.
