How many levels does the program have?

       Our program has 3 levels.

             090- High Beginning

             091- Intermediate

             092- Advanced

How long are the semesters in the English Language Program (ELP)?
The ELP offers two 16-week semesters (Fall & Spring) and a short 8 week summer session each year.
How big are the classes?
We take pride in having a small personal program. To make sure you receive a quality learning experience, we try to keep our classes no larger than 15 students. Most classes have about 10-12 students.
How many hours of English class will I have each week?
During the Spring and Fall semesters, a full-time student will have classes Monday through Thursday. Classes typically start at 9:00 a.m. and usually finish around 3:00 p.m.  You will receive approximately 20 hours of English each week.
Are there grades?
Yes. Students receive a grade of A, B, C, D, or F in each class.
How long will it take me to complete the program?
That depends on your level of English proficiency when you start. Some students are in the program for one semester while others take 3 semesters.
How do I exit the program?
Students in the 092 level take a proficiency exam to determine if they are ready to leave the program. The exam has three parts; a writing section (essay), a listening section, and a grammar, vocabulary & reading comprehension section.
Do I need to take the TOEFL to get admitted into the university?
No. If you successfully exit our program, you do not need a TOEFL score to be admitted for undergraduate studies at the university.


Is Statesboro a nice place to live?

Yes, it is. Statesboro is a small and safe city with a total population of about 29,000. The city offers many community-centered activities that are hosted right on Georgia Southern’s campus. Learn more about the city by visiting the Visit Statesboro website.
Do I need a car?
Most people have cars in Statesboro, but it is not necessary. It is easy to get around campus on foot, and the university has shuttle buses that take students to campus from nearby apartment complexes. Many students use bicycles, while others rent vehicles using Zipcar for Georgia Southern students.
