Georgia Southern Faculty Development Awards

Georgia Southern University prides itself on its diverse, teaching-focused faculty. Each year the Center for Teaching Excellence oversees recommendations for privately-funded teaching awards:

Kristina Brockmeier Faculty Award

In honor of Armstrong’s former director of libraries, this award is presented each year to an Armstrong faculty member who is recognized as an outstanding teacher and who has made significant contributions to the university and its students. The recipient of this award received a cash prize.

Requirements for Eligibility
All faculty who have taught on the Armstrong campus full-time for no less than one year and no more than five years.

Nomination and Selection Process
Nominations may originate with any member of the university community. Nominations should be submitted to the nominee’s department chair, who should write a letter of endorsement. Additional supporting documentation should include the nominee’s most current annual report and letter of recommendation from students and/or colleagues. Those recommendations should address the nominee’s teaching effectiveness and the nature and scope of service to the university and its students.

Deadline: 5:00 PM, ET, Monday, March 25, 2019

Submission: The nomination should be emailed as one .pdf document to cte@georgiasouthern.edu.

Judge Ron Ginsberg Faculty Excellence Award

Endowed by Water Utility Management, Inc. in honor of its board member, Judge Ron Ginsberg, this award recognizes the overall outstanding teaching (face-to-face, online, or blended) of one full-time Armstrong faculty member in 2018 calendar year. The selection committee will accept one nomination per department, and nominations should come from the department chair. The recipient of this award receives a cash prize. Nomination packages should include the following materials:

  1. A letter of nomination from the department chair: When writing the nomination letter, the department chair might consider referring to the nominee’s most recent annual faculty evaluation; however, the department chair may endorse the nominee in a way he/she deems most appropriate to reflect the nominee’s teaching performance.
  2. A letter of support from a student: Because the award reflects work during the 2018 calendar year, the letter of support should come from a student whom the nominee taught during that year.
  3. A document illustrating the nominee’s teaching accomplishments during the 2018 calendar year: Not to exceed two pages, this document can provide additional evidence illustrating the nominee’s outstanding teaching accomplishments. Information may include but is not limited to the following: a list of classes taught, explanations of scholarship of teaching/learning projects, citations of teaching publications and/or conference presentations, a brief teaching philosophy, explanations of teaching awards, and abstracts of teaching/learning grants.

Deadline: 5:00 PM, ET, Monday, March 25, 2019

Submissions:
The selection committee will make a recommendation to the provost. If members of the selection committee are nominees, they must recuse themselves from the selection process. Nominations must be submitted as one .pdf document via email to cte@georgiasouthern.edu.
