Georgia Southern Faculty Development Awards

The Faculty Development Committee is pleased to announce the availability of funding in support of faculty development activities by faculty members. Funded by the University, the programs are designed to provide time and resources for the enhancement of the teaching-learning process with emphasis directed toward classroom instruction.

Professional Travel

Application Deadlines for the following academic terms are all at 5:00 pm on the particular date specified:

  • Fall: October 7, 2019 (for travel between November 2, 2019 and March 1, 2020)
  • Spring: January 24, 2020 (for travel between March 2, 2020 and June 13, 2020)
  • Summer: More information coming soon!
    • (for travel between June 14, 2020 and November 1, 2020)

Funds are available to support professional travel for conference and professional meetings directly related to updating knowledge of the discipline and enhancing your professional development as a teacher-scholar. Please read the Awards for Professional Travel Guidelines prior to completing the application form below. Download application for professional travel. Please note that this is a NEW fillable Adobe Acrobat FORM. ALL proposals must be submitted using this form. You MUST download and save the file to your local computer. Then open the file with Adobe Acrobat Professional, complete the form, and save it prior to submitting. Adobe Acrobat Reader will NOT work.


Requirements for Eligibility
  • Full-time faculty members are eligible.
  • The applicant should not refer to a co-presenter or other potential beneficiary of funding by name. It is the applicant’s responsibility to maintain confidentiality.
  • Recipients of awards are not eligible for awards within the same category the following year.
  • No member of the Faculty Development Committee may receive a faculty development award or an Award for Excellence in Instruction while he or she serves on the committee. Nor may he or she nominate someone for the award or write a letter of recommendation for a nominee for the award during this term of service.
Intellectual Property

Please note that the receipt of any award used for the development of creative and scholarly works and new materials, devices, processes, or other inventions which may have commercial potential is governed by the Georgia Southern University Intellectual Property Policy. University personnel are required to provide the Provost with a project disclosure on forms provided by the Office of Research Services and Sponsored Programs.

Summer Stipend

Application Deadline: More information coming soon!

Awards of $3000 (salary, purchase, or reimbursement) each will allow faculty members to upgrade skills in the discipline, to develop innovative teaching strategies, to devise new courses/significantly revise existing ones, to plan significant curriculum changes, or to pursue other creative projects that affect the instructional process. Download application for development of summer award. Recipients of the award receive payment of award in August.

Excellence in Instruction

Designed to recognize and reward faculty who have made outstanding contributions to the teaching-learning process at Georgia Southern, the Awards for Excellence in Contributions to Instruction are presented to full-time faculty members. Recipients are selected from persons nominated by faculty, administrators, and/or students. Once selected, recipients will receive further instructions.
