Fellowships

Governor’s Teaching Fellows

According to the guidelines at UGA’s Institute of Higher Education, each eligible university can submit two nominees for the Governor’s Teaching Fellowship. The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) will solicit nominees from department chairs and deans. When the CTE receives multiple nominations, the director’s selection committee will make a recommendation to the Provost.

Application Process:

With appropriate encouragement and support from one’s department chair and dean, candidates should send a letter of interest and intent to the Center for Teaching Excellence at cte@georgiasouthern.edu. The CTE will collect the applications and–with assistance of the selection committee–make a recommendation to the Provost, who will forward the recommendation to the President of the University.

If the President supports the request, she will write a letter of support for the nominee. The Governor’s Teaching Fellows Program requires that the candidate submit the following:

  • A letter of nomination from the President.
  • A letter of intent
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • A 1-2 page teaching philosophy statement.

Applicants should submit the application package according to the instructions outlined by the Institute of Higher Education at http://ihe.uga.edu/outreach/governors-teaching-fellows/apply/

Deadlines:

Applications for the GTF summer programs should arrive at the CTE on or before the first working day of January after the university’s holiday break. The committee’s recommendation for the summer session should be delivered to the President by the Friday prior to the Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday. The nominee is responsible for submitting the complete application package to the Institute of Higher Education by the deadline established at the link provided above.

Applications for the GTF academic year program should arrive at the CTE on or before the Monday following spring break. The committee’s recommendation for the academic year session should be delivered to the President on or before the first working day of April. The nominee is responsible for submitting the complete application package to the Institute of Higher Education by the deadline established at the link provided above.
