P.E.O.’s International Peace Scholarship

December 5, 2013
University Student Advisors/Administrators,
Dear Advisor/Administrator,
We contacting you to be sure you are aware of P.E.O.’s  International Peace Scholarship.  We hope that you will be willing to help us spread the word so that we can find the most qualified candidates of this award.  It is our fondest hope that by helping educate future leaders in other countries we can foster goodwill, understanding and peace in the world.
Please keep this opportunity in mind as you counsel female international graduate and Ph.D. students, especially between now and December 15th, when the eligibility form must be submitted for a student to be considered for fall ’14.  This scholarship’s limit is $10,000 for one academic year, and it is renewable one time only.  Any current female international student (who has at least one academic year remaining upon receipt of the scholarship in May) is eligible.  Also, any newly accepted student, even if she has not yet matriculated, is eligible.  As you are preparing I-20’s, please keep in mind that this money may make the difference in a student’s ability to attend your school.  Please advise any potential applicant for this scholarship that she will be required to sign an affidavit indicating that she understands that she must return to her home country within 60 days of graduation.  Otherwise, she will be required to pay back the funds. This scholarship allows the student to take advantage of the one year optional practical training (O.P.T.) allowed on an F-1 visa.  She must return within sixty days of completion of her O.P.T.
Note that the preliminary application must be submitted online to the P.E.O. International office (www.peointernational.org) in Des Moines, Iowa by December 15th, so if a student is interested, she must act quickly.  She can click on the link on the lefthand top of the screen entitled P.E.O. Projects and Philanthropies; then scroll down to P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship.  She must complete and submit the Preliminary Application by December 15th.   If the student shows need, P.E.O. International will mail her the full application packet.  The formal documentation of need and acceptance (if a newly accepted student) will not be required until April 1st.
Please post the enclosed notice and eligibility information in a prominent place.  Again, thank you for your interest.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about IPS.
Sincerely,
Dot Matthews                Lela Lantz
