CPE Leadership Conference: The Future of Leadership: Adapting to a Changing Landscape
The Interim Director of Georgia Southern’s Division of Continuing & Professional Education (CPE), Deedee Southerlin, Ed.D., specializes in customized leadership training for Industry groups throughout Georgia and the Southeast region. With the vast expansion of industry booming into the Statesboro and Savannah areas, Southerlin has witnessed a change in the workforce environment in our area. To make a meaningful impact on talent retention, leaders must learn to adapt to stay competitive and provide effective leadership and growth opportunities within their own organizations.
Keynote speakers include Brent Stubbs, Ed.D., Senior Manager of Learning and Development at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, and Justin Farquhar, Vice President of Workforce for the Savannah Economic Development Authority. CPE FREE Community Programs
At CPE, we believe that continuous learning and professional advancement are essential components of success. With great excitement, we announce the launch of our new initiative, the “Free Community Programs” project, aimed at providing accessible lifelong learning opportunities to everyone in our community. These programs will be hosted at the CPE center in Statesboro; best of all, they are entirely FREE!
Our inaugural program, on March 13, Sophia Harris-Johnson, CFEI, and owner of Exodus Credit Counseling, will lead a session on financial literacy titled “It’s Not What You Make, But How You Spend It.” Attendees will gain invaluable insights into managing finances wisely and making informed decisions about money.
Following that, “First Aid for Life,” will kick off on March 20. Led by Corporal Samuel Derr from Georgia Southern University’s Department of Public Safety, this session will delve into various aspects of emergency training, from minor to severe situations, ultimately enhancing your chances of survival.
CPE’s objective is to bring local experts to the forefront, offering educational sessions that cater to the needs and interests of our community members. Mark your calendars for the National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference (NYAR), taking place from March 3-6, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency hotel in beautiful downtown Savannah, Georgia. This event promises to be an inspiring and transformative experience for all attendees, providing valuable insights, networking opportunities and practical tools to better serve and empower our youth.
Founded by the College of Education (COE) of Georgia Southern University in 1990, NYAR trains adults who serve youth to create safe, healthy, caring and intellectually empowering educational environments that foster the well-being of all children and adolescents. To accomplish this mission, it offers over one hundred presentations by nationally and internationally recognized presenters to more than 1,400 national and international conference participants.
“This conference is about schools and much more,” said Alisa Leckie, Ph.D., NYAR Conference co-chair. “In order to really impact youth and the communities in which they live in, we have to look at all of the influences in a child’s life.”
NYAR has a rich history of bringing together educators, administrators, counselors, health and human service professionals, law enforcement personnel, community leaders, volunteers, therapists and social workers from around the world. By offering sessions in its five thoughtfully curated strands; Head: Academic Achievement and Leadership, Heart: Social and Emotional Skills, Hands: Safety and Violence Prevention, Health: Mental and Physical Health and Home: Family and Community Engagement, NYAR continues to be at the forefront of promoting the well-being of all children and adolescents.
