Career Resources for Women & Female-Identifying Students

The Office of Career and Professional Development is committed to supporting women at all points of the career development process. Below are helpful resources specific to this population of students, including job and internship search resources for women, salary negotiation strategies, and networking organizations on and off campus.


Equality in the Workplace

Below are a couple of great sites that guide women towards promoting equality in the workplace and jobs that are invested in women’s success. 


Job and Internship Search 

The Career and Professional Development Office at Georgia Southern University provides resources to facilitate job and internship opportunities. However, below are sites that could further help with the search.

  • National Organization for Women – This organization is dedicated to its multi-issue and multi-strategy approach to women’s rights
  • Women-rated companies – This site helps women find the companies and jobs where they will thrive 
  • Top Five Career Websites for Women Job Seekers – Forbes article that helps women know the insights of a company before applying, interviewing, and negotiating an offer 
  • Where Women Work – Showcases the impressive work and achievements of women, while shining a spotlight on the organizations supporting them 
  • Advancing Women – Top women and diversity recruiting site 
  • Women’s Job List – With Women’s Job List, employers get access to a talented pool of candidates that would otherwise go undiscovered

Illegal Interview Questions 

There are some questions employers are not legally allowed to ask, particularly anything concerning family, pregnancy, gender, etc. FindLaw thoroughly explains several illegal questions women are often subject to.   


Networking

  • Women’s Leadership Series (WLS) – The Leadership Series was designed to create leadership opportunities for women to plan and lead sessions, as well as to serve the campus and community by promoting cutting-edge material on issues affecting women in leadership
  • Southern Women – Southern Women provides a forum for women of Georgia Southern and Armstrong to connect with one another for personal and professional growth with the objective of encouraging interest and participation by all alumnae in the programs of the University and the Georgia Southern Alumni Association

Professional Associations 

  • American Business Women’s Association – The mission of the American Business Women’s Association is to bring together business women of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition
  • Women in Technology in International – Provides news, career opportunities, and articles to empower women through technology
  • Association for Women in Science – Leading organization for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
  • The Association for Women in Communities – The premier organization for empowering women with strength, support, and tools for everlasting your career and becoming an agent of change in the industry
  • National Association of Professional Women – NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive, highly advanced networking forum to successful women executives, professionals and entrepreneurs where they can aspire, connect and achieve. Through innovative resources, unique tools and progressive benefits, professional women interact, exchange ideas, advance their knowledge and empower each other
  • Financial Women’s Association – Promotes professional development and advancement of all women through education, mentorship, scholarships, networking, and alliances across the financial community
  • Association for Women in Computing –  one of the first professional organizations for women in computing. AWC is dedicated to promoting the advancement of women in the computing professions

  • Safe Haven Statesboro – This is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of family violence through prevention and educational programs
