August 3, 2021: Welcome Back to Campus

Dear Faculty,

This week marks the beginning of a new academic year, and I’m excited to welcome you and our students back to campus. I hope you had a productive summer relaxing, spending time with loved ones, and pursuing your research, scholarship, and creative activities. I saw a lot of excellent work being done over the summer, and I commend you for your dedication to our mission as a public impact research university.

As we start the fall term, we are closely monitoring the pandemic and I assure you that the health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff are our highest priorities. We continue to follow guidance from the GDPH and the USG, and we will respond appropriately if any new information becomes available. The Provost’s Office will send out additional policies and procedures regarding the Fall term, so please check your email for those messages. We will continue to provide updates throughout the semester.

Last year, we learned of the importance of having flexibility to toggle back and forth between in-person and online instruction. So please activate and update your Folio accounts if you haven’t done so already. Folio is our continuity of instruction platform.

Although we still face some challenges with the ongoing pandemic, I am excited about this upcoming year. Unlike other peer institutions, Georgia Southern University did not lose any ground last year. Your scholarly activities reached new, impressive heights. You also provided our students with the same high-quality education for which our institution is known. I believe you will soar even higher this year, and I can’t wait to see what you will accomplish. Thank you again for all your outstanding work.

I look forward to seeing you at the Eagle Experience, Weeks of Welcome, the State of the University, and other events.

Sincerely,

Carl L. Reiber

Provost & Vice President Academic Affairs
