Education Focus Area
The Education Focus Area is for students who are interested in working in the teaching field and making a difference in the lives of others. Students can then choose to focus on teaching pre-k, elementary grades, middle grades, high school, special education, or health and physical education. Students gain hands-on experience in a variety of public school settings, helping them to develop excellent practical teaching skills.
Students not ready to declare a specific major can choose to be in Exploratory Education until they have decided on a specific Education major. Click the button below to view the Exploratory Education Program Map.

Majors
Elementary Education
Prepares students to teach grades P- 5th grade with a variety of coursework and field experience prior to certification.

Birth to Kindergarten
The goal of the Birth-Kindergarten Teacher Education concentration is to prepare you to work professionally with children and their families in a variety of settings, including serving children with special needs. This early childhood education program takes a holistic approach to addressing the diverse needs of children and families to ensure high quality and equitable classroom experiences for each and every child.

Health & Physical Education
Prepares students in becoming health and physical educators by learning how to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate P- 12 health education curriculum in tradition school settings.

Middle Grade Education
Prepares students to teach 4th through 8th grade with specialization areas in language arts, mathematics, science or social studies. Formal curriculum requirements and field experience lead to certification.

Secondary Education
The Secondary Education Bachelor of Science in Education degree is a professional degree for individuals seeking initial teacher certification in Georgia to teach 6th-12th grades. Additional admission requirements must be met to enter the Secondary Education B.S.Ed. Certification Track program. Students seeking teacher certification are first admitted to the Secondary Education B.S.Ed. Professional Studies Non-Certification Track. This track does not lead to teacher certification. Upon meeting B.S.Ed. teacher education admission requirements at the completion of Area F, those students seeking initial teacher certification will be admitted to the Certification Track. Successful completion of all program requirements and all Georgia Professional Standards Commission certification requirements will prepare an individual to gain teacher certification in Georgia. Concentration areas include Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Math, or Physics.

Special Education
Prepares students to teach special education at any level P-12. Concentration areas include language arts, reading, or mathematics.
