Business Focus Area
The Business Focus Area prepares young professionals for exciting and rewarding careers in the fields of accounting, economics, finance, information systems, logistics, management, and marketing. The coursework for a degree in business is designed to ensure students can build the foundation necessary for today’s highly competitive global business environment. Business majors have the opportunity to gain out-of-classroom experience through internships and specialized study abroad programs which help them to grow both professionally and personally while gaining leadership skills.

Majors
Accounting
Accounting is the language of business. Using their analytical and problem-solving skills, accountants provide big-picture thinking and an understanding of how financial data impacts every aspect of the organization. The accounting program prepares students for a wide range of professional careers in public accounting, industry and finance, and in specialty areas such as forensic accounting and fraud examination and government and non-profit accounting.

Economics
Provides students with a broad knowledge of economic tools to provide a foundation for careers in business, economics, finance or law.

Finance
Finance is concerned with the valuation and exchange of assets over time. It combines elements of accounting, economics and statistics to analyze financial problems and decisions. Finance questions addressed include asset pricing, financing and choice of alternative investment opportunities, domestic and international financial institutions and markets, corporate governance, and risk management.

Information Systems
Blends experience using leading-edge information technologies with business knowledge to address business problems and illustrate the value of business/IT alignment. Emphasis areas include: accounting information systems, business intelligence, electronic commerce, enterprise resources planning, enterprise security, and logistics information systems.

Management
Emphasizes the integrative nature of the management discipline in planning, leading, organizing, and controlling contemporary profit and non-profit organizations. Emphases include entrepreneurship/small business, hospitality, human resources, and operations.

Marketing
Provides students with an awareness of the marketing problems confronting today’s business firms, some knowledge and experience in application of the tools and techniques of marketing problem solving, and a more detailed knowledge of one or more specific areas of the marketing discipline. Emphases include fashion merchandising, retailing and sales management.

Supply Chain Management
A degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management prepares students for the many jobs available in this challenging and rapidly expanding field. Basic LIT courses focus on logistics and transportation concepts and principles. Advanced courses focus on logistics operations, international logistics, and intermodal distribution issues.
