Publications

Presentations & Accolades

JPHCOPH’s Dr. Nandi Marshall was notified that the REACH Partnership with Healthy Savannah & YMCA of Coastal GA was funded again for another five years. Dr. Marshall will continue to serve as the lead for the breastfeeding continuity of care work. The project will focus on several strategies, including breastfeeding continuity of care. Further, the work will continue to focus on Black/African-American communities while also expanding to the Hispanic & Latinx communities.

One of CAH’s Spring 2023 MMFP graduates, Matthew Gaines, received a nomination this morning for a 2024 Student Production Award presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter.  This nomination in the C19 Animation/Graphics/Special Effects category is for his work animating his Spring 2023 Senior Project, Trash Cats

JPHCOPH’s Dr. Rob Bohler and Dr. Bill Mase were awarded a grant through the Recovery Research Institute at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School to study recovery community organizations in rural areas of Georgia. This is a one-year project for a total of $45,000 and will involve working with Dr. Lofaro in the Department of Public and Nonprofit Studies.

WCHP’s  Department of Clinical Sciences faculty members Kerry Dunn, Ed.D., RT(R)(M), and Yvonne Dillon, M.Ed., RDMS, have been awarded a grant in the amount of $3,971.80 from the ASRT Foundation to study burnout in radiologic science educators.

JPHCOPH’s Dr. Kelly Sullivan was nominated and has been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the American College of Epidemiology Research and Education Foundation. The ACE Foundation is guided by the principles of epidemiology and its practitioners’ ability to improve the human condition. In partnership with the American College of Epidemiology’s leadership, the Foundation is the premier philanthropic organization to expand resources to promote epidemiology, by offering mentorship, education and resources for the American College of Epidemiology’s members and the public worldwide.

WCHP’s Keagan Kiely, MS, clinical instructor and director of the Center for Rehabilitation and Independent Living, was granted a Faculty Service Award in the amount of $4,458. The award will be used to support the funding of two graduate assistants to help further expand the Camp RAD program in both Bulloch and Effingham County. Since 2012, Camp RAD, with the help of community members, has provided a fun, safe, summer experience for youth with disabilities as they gain important life skills that focus on health, wellness and physical activity. 

JPHCOPH’s Dr. Ana Palacios was a featured speaker at the Women’s Leadership Series on Thursday, February 15th. The title of this talk was: Mindful Eating: Practical Nutrition Tips.

WCHP’s Athletic Training Program had four current students and one alumni presented posters at the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association District IX meeting. The individuals preceptors were Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology faculty members, Tamerah Hunt, Ph.D, and Jessica Mutchler, Ph.D. Below are the names of presenters and titles of their work.

JPHCOPH’s Mrs. Angie Peden took a leadership role in hosting a very successful 7th Annual Health Professionals Workforce Development Workshop. The workshop was attended by approximately 50 individuals from multiple organizations including Freedom Through Recovery, GA DPH, Southeast HD, North Central HD, Fulton BOH, DeKalb County BOH, CDC Foundation, South HD, Coastal HD, South Central HD, and Share Health. Dr. Raymona Lawrence was a featured speaker.

WCHP’s Department of Clinical Sciences faculty members, Sidney Stoddard, Jr., PT, DPT, Ed.D., and George Davies, PT, DPT, M.Ed., recently presented the research titled “Effect of Blood Flow Restriction on Shoulder Internal and External Rotator Muscle Post-Activation Potential Performance Using Handheld Dynamometry” at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting in Boston, MA. The student-driven research project was completed by Doctor of Physical Therapy students, Ambrose Hohrein, SPT, and Kasey Keller, SPT, under the guidance of Bryan Riemann, Ph.D., faculty member in the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology, Stoddard, and Davies.

Appointments

WCHP’s Anthony Parish, Ph.D., in collaboration with Timothy Baghurst, Ph.D., has published the book, Case Studies in Coaching Ethics: Real Dilemmas in High School, College, and Professional Sports.

WCHP’s Tamerah Hunt, Ph.D., AT, FACSM, was elected as the Chair of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Foundation Board of Directors District 9.

WCHP’s alumna Hui Tang, in collaboration with Barry Munkasy, Ph.D., and Li Li, Ph.D., has had the manuscript “Differences between Lower Extremity Joint Running Kinetics Captured by Marker-based and Markerless Systems Were Speed Dependent” accepted for publication in the Journal of Sport and Health Science.

WCHP’s graduate exercise science alumna Kylee West (’23), in collaboration with Nicholas Siekirk, Ph.D., Barry Joyner, Ph.D., and Greg Grosicki, Ph.D., has had her manuscript, “The Acute Effect of Passively Assisted Trunk Stretching on Central Arterial Stiffness and Blood Pressure in Middle-Aged to Older Adults,” accepted into the European Journal of Applied Physiology.
