July 2, 2020: Reopening

Dear Faculty,

We are now less than a month away from the start of Phase 3 of the University’s reopening plan as we prepare to be fully operational by August 1. Our guiding principles are to provide a high-quality education, minimize disruption to students’ schedules, and meet all social distancing guidelines established by the CDC, GDPH, and USG.

My office and I continue to work closely with the deans, chairs, and faculty to meet all scheduling and social distancing needs. We have been fortunate in our ability to rely on your pedagogical expertise in the classroom throughout this process, so I appreciate everyone’s input so far.

Faculty members, if you haven’t done so already, please begin talking with your chairs about approaches to teaching this fall. We have to maintain educational continuity under any circumstances, so in addition to preparing for in-person instruction, please also make sure to activate and populate your Folio site for each course.

Regarding classrooms, we have an extremely limited number of spaces to physically move courses. Each college will have to share their prioritized list for moving courses with my office by July 8. Those recommendations should be transparent and readily available.

Information about access to space for practicing with technology will come out toward the end of the month.

Obviously, the fall semester will not be business as usual. We continue to monitor the status of COVID-19 and its impact on our campuses and communities. We will push out information as we learn of any changes that could impact you and how we engage students this summer and into the fall term. Thank you for your patience as we try to figure everything out in this unprecedented time.
