How can faculty verify students go for tutoring?
Some faculty require students to seek help if they do poorly on a test while other faculty provide students additional points for attending tutoring sessions or group study sessions. We work with faculty who want to verify students are coming for tutoring at the ASC. Contact Mike Czech at 478-0321 to discuss student verification.
What are the Academic Workshops?
The Academic Workshops are provided throughout the year on numerous topics. Topics currently include how to study for biology, chemistry, economics, math, political science, and psychology; tips on test taking, test anxiety, note taking, goal setting, and time management; how to determine your learning style; and how to read a textbook more effectively. For a complete list of workshops, go to http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/success/OpenWorkshops.htm . If you have any topics you think should be added, please contact Janet O’Brien, Director of the ASC, at 478-5371.
I would LOVE to provide an Academic Workshop. Who do I call?
You can be an integral part of the ASC by presenting Academic Workshops and encouraging your students to seek help at the Center. If you are interested in presenting a workshop, contact Janet O’Brien at 478-5371 to discuss your workshop topic and date. This is an excellent service to the University for your tenure and promotion packet.
How can I schedule a Guest Presentation for a class?
Just contact the ASC and let us know the date, time, location, number of students, and preferred topic (some common topics are listed above in the Academic Workshops section). We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
What Testing Services are provided at the ASC?
The Testing Office which is located in the ASC administers the Legislative Exemption Exams, administers CLEP exams, and administers independent study exams/distance learning exams. The Testing Office also coordinates national exams for the ACT, SAT, LSAT, PCAT, EIT, CHES, ACE, MAT, and TOEFL.
