Legislative Exemption Exams
Georgia History & Constitution
U.S. History & Constitution

Cost: No Charge
Test Times: By Appointment Only; 9:00 am - 11:00 am & 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Georgia State Legislature imposed this test battery on the University System of Georgia to assure that they exposed all college graduates from the system, either through academic courses or written examination, to the fundamentals of federal and state government. Eligibility requirements for this test are established by the Registrar's Office.

Schedule a Test: Contact the Testing Office two weeks prior to the desired testing date.
Retesting:   One retest is permitted no sooner than two (2) weeks after the first attempt and only twice a semester.

Successful completion of the following courses may exempt
one or both of the exams:

Georgia Constitution & U.S. Constitution: POLS 1101/1101H
Georgia History & U.S. History: HIST 2110/2110H
Georgia Constitution: POLS 3330
Georgia Constitution & Georgia History: HIST 4130

Preparing for the Exams
The History and Political Science Departments provide study information for these tests and it is available at the reserve desk in the Georgia Southern Library.

Georgia Government/Constitution exam:  Prepare from the website:

United States Constitution exam:  Excerpts from Government in America by Lineberry, Edwards, & Wattenberg or from any American government or political science textbook.  Topics of study should include: the founding fathers and the Constitutional Convention, Federalism, political parties, interest groups, Congress, the Presidency, courts, civil liberties, and civil rights.

United States History exam:  The Unfinished Nation by Alan Brinkley

The AP Exam and CLEP Exam study guides for American Government and United States History can be used to prepare for the exams.

Picture Identification Required for All Tests
Please make sure you bring an acceptable ID

Acceptable IDs are: a valid state driver's license, student ID or passport.
(Not accepted: check cashing cards, picture credit cards, Sam's cards, etc.)
