General Information about CLEP

The College-Level Examination Program® or CLEP provides students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. There are 2,900 colleges that grant credit and/or advanced standing for CLEP exams.  CLEP is a computer-based testing (CBT) program.

Georgia Southern University does not grant credit for all CLEP exams offered.  The Georgia Southern University Registrar’s Office establishes eligibility in conjunction with the academic department.  The Registrar's Office is responsible for  awarding credit under their policies. To view which CLEP exams are accepted by Georgia Southern University, please click here. To see a list of all the CLEP Exams offered see the College Board Website .  Policies are different for each institutions, candidates should verify which exams are accepted at their institutions and policies regarding the number of hours allowed to transfer.

Georgia Southern University will grant up to 30 semester hours of general education credit to those students who obtain the minimum CLEP scores defined by university policy (see http://admissions.georgiasouthern.edu/creditbyexam.php#CLEP). Credit will not be awarded if the student has previously registered for a similar course or a more advanced course in the same field, or if six months have not elapsed since last taking the exam.  Georgia Southern students are encouraged to speak with a representative from the Registrar's Office prior to taking an exam if you are a transfer student or had previous enrolled in class but dropped the class prior to receiving grade to ensure Georgia Southern will accept the exam.  It is the students' responsibility to contact the Registrar's Office.  The Registrar's Office is located on the 3rd floor of the Rosenwald building and the phone number is 912.478.5152.

Scores are reported to the designated institutions within 2 - 3 weeks of testing.  Candidates must wait a minimum of six months to retake a CLEP exam.
