MATH 0099 Departmental Syllabus for Day Classes

Text:  Martin-Gay, Beginning Algebra, fourth edition

Calculator Required:  TI-83 Graphing Calculator

Attendance Policy:  Students in Learning Support courses are expected to attend all class meetings.  There are no "excused" absences in Learning Support courses.  There may be a time when you have to be absent because of an emergency (illness or some "catastrophe").  In that case, you are responsible for finding out what went on in class and making up the work (this day will still count as an absence).  More than 6 absences for any reason result in an automatic F in the course.  Failure to appear in class for at least 80% of the class period will constitute an absence.

Exit Criteria:  Students who exit Math 0099 must meet three exit criteria:  1) a minimum of 37 on the COMPASS, 2) a course average of at least 70, and 3) no more than 6 absences absences in the course.

Grades:  Grades will be assigned as follows:

A 90-100 average and no more than 6 absences
B 80-89 average and no more than 6 absences
C 70-79 average and no more than 6 absences
IP (in progress) First and second semester students who have attended class and have worked diligently but have not met the above exit requirements.
U (unsatisfactory) Third semester students who do not complete the above exit requirements.
F First and second semester students who have missed 7 or more classes and/or submitted less than 80% of the required work.

Your course grade will be determined primarily by grades made on test given during the semester and on the final exam.  Make-up tests may be given at the discretion of the instructor.  The final exam will constitute 25% of your final average.  Students who have more than 6 absences and/or submitted less than 80% of the required work will receive an automatic F.

Learning Support Dismissal:  Any student who has not exited all Learning Support courses, including Math 0097 and Math 0099, at the end of three (3) semesters will be considered ineligible to return to Georgia Southern for three (3) years.

Academic Misconduct:  Academic misconduct is considered a very serious offense.  The minimum penalty will be an F on the assignment/test.  Any academic misconduct will be reported to the proper authorities and subject to all penalties relating to academic dishonesty as listed in the Student Guide.

The Academic Success Center is located on the second floor of Cone Hall across the pedestrium from Hollis and Rosenwald.
