Welcome to the portal for the SoTL at Georgia Southern initiative. This website will be regularly updated regarding activities, resources, recognitions, and the SoTL work of Georgia Southern faculty. It is meant to be an active nexus for SoTL researchers, work, collaborations, activities, etc. Please bookmark this site and check it frequently.
It is hoped that the initiative, and its website, will stimulate discussions about the scholarship of teaching and learning among the faculty and staff of Georgia Southern, resulting in fruitful conversations about the nature of scholarship and research, as well as the intellectual work of good teaching and student learning.
It is also hoped that the initiative will lead to increased collaborations (formal and informal) among faculty (both disciplinary and interdisciplinary) in adopting an inquiry-led, evidence-based approach to systematically improving student learning through various forms of pedagogical research. Such improvement of learning is the purpose of SoTL which understands good teaching to not be dependent upon a particular method, but to be teaching that leads to good student learning. Volume 8, Issue 1 challenges readers to examine how SoTL is conceptualized and operationalized. The issue also illuminates how redefinition and collaboration can help move SoTL and its scholars from models of deficit and isolation to integration and capacity building.
