Research Compliance at Georgia Southern All members of the academic community - faculty, staff, and students – are expected to satisfy institutional stewardship obligations and to conduct their research and scholarship pursuits in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as the policies and procedures of the University. Research compliance encompasses a wide variety of subjects including human and animal subjects; pre- and post-award management; access to and retention of data; environmental and workplace safety; intellectual property; conflicts of interest; and scholarly integrity in research. The Office of Research Services and Sponsored Programs is responsible for ensuring that the research conducted at Georgia Southern University is conducted in a responsible manner, consistent with federal and state law and University Policies. Committees Overseeing Research Compliance Prior to initiating any Georgia Southern University research or instruction involving humans as subjects, the care or use of animals, or biohazardous materials, an application for approval must be submitted to and approved by the appropriate university committees). These committees are responsible for reviewing research conducted by Georgia Southern University faculty, staff, and students to ensure protections are in place for research participants, principal investigators, and the community. All research compliance is coordinated through the Office of Research Services and Sponsored Programs so that there is one, central point for the researchers in meeting their compliance and research ethics responsibilities. |
