Georgia Southern University
Under the Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq., a citizen may request access to public records/documents (except for certain records protected against disclosure by law) that are prepared or maintained in the course of the operation of a university office or department. The University is required to respond to such requests within three days, indicating whether the requested records are subject to disclosure under the Act and, if so, the terms and conditions of disclosure. If a search chair or member of the search committee receives such a request citing the right to access under the Open Records Act to records maintained by the search committee, he or she should immediately refer the requester to the custodian of public records located in the Office of Legal Affairs. If the Open Records Act is not referenced and the faculty or staff member is uncertain about responding, he or she should refer the requester to the custodian of public records.
