How to Participate: Membership Information

The Project BESST program is a social studies sister program to the successful science program, Project SENSE. Project BESST kits provide social studies materials such as artifacts, replicas, documents, costumes, and other support materials which are either prohibitively expensive, difficult to acquire or difficult to store. Each kit is specifically correlated to a content theme and time period, and contains activities, lesson plans and teacher support materials. All consumable materials for a class of 30 students are provided. Additional consumable material is provided for an additional fee.

  • System Membership
If an entire system/county participates, there will be a $5/per student fee based on the latest FTE count. Materials will be available to all classrooms in the K-8 schools of that system. Any teacher in the system may attend the summer workshop free.
  • School Membership
If the system/county does not participate, but an individual school or individual grade level does, there will be a $6/per student fee based on the latest FTE count for the school or grade level. Any teacher in the school may attend the summer workshop for a $250 fee.
  • Teacher Membership
If neither the system/county nor school participates, an individual teacher may attend the summer workshop for $550, which includes a one-year payment for the materials for a classroom of 30 students. A $7 fee will be necessary for each additional student. For example, if this teacher teaches 3 classes of 30, the additional charge would be 60x$7 = $420.
  • Alumni Membership
Any teacher who has completed at least one summer workshop of Project BESST will be considered alumni. Alumni not attending a summer workshop in a particular year may use the materials for one classroom of 30 students for a $210 fee. A $7 fee will be necessary for each additional student. For example, if this teacher teaches 3 classes of 30, the additional charge would be 60x$7=$420.
  • Graduate Membership
Any teacher who has completed all three summer workshops of Project BESST will be considered a graduate. Any graduate may use the materials for a $7/per student fee based on current class size.

For school, teacher, alumni, and graduate members, these rules must apply:

  • Only 2 kits and 2 exhibits will be available for each two-week cycle.
  • There will be no extensions given to the time of kit use without prior approval.
