Accepted International Student Checklist Fall '08
Congratulations on your acceptance to Georgia Southern University! To assist you, we have created this checklist of things you must do to ensure a successful transition to Georgia Southern.
REQUEST I-20 or DS2019
An I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility) is the immigration document needed to apply for an F-1 student visa. A DS-2019 is the immigration document needed to apply for a J-1 exchange visitor visa. You must submit the SEVIS Data Form and financial documentation before Georgia Southern can issue you an I-20 or DS2019 . Transfer students also need to submit the SEVIS Transfer Form through their current International Student Offices.
PAY I-901 FEE
You must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee prior to your visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country.
APPLY FOR VISA AT U.S. EMBASSY/CONSULATE
Consult the U.S. Department of State's website for valuable information on what you need for your visa appointment.
APPLY FOR HOUSING
You may to choose to live on-campus in a student residence hall or off-campus in privately-owned apartments. Many international students prefer living on-campus in Southern Pines. SUBMIT COMPLETED CERTIFICATE OF IMMUNIZATION
You must show proof of immunizations and provide basic health information. Please read Health Services letter to international students and submit the Certificate of Immunization. If you do not have these immunizations, we recommend you get them in your country as they are costly in the United States.
SIGN UP for INTERNATIONAL ORIENTATION and PROVIDE ARRIVAL INFO
You must register for this mandatory orientation that will take place August 13-15, 2008. Undergraduate students will also attend SOAR on August 16, 2008. The form also includes reservations for shuttle service from the Savannah/Hilton Head airport on August 11 or 12.
PREPARE TO PAY TUITION & FEES
Your tuition and fees must be paid by the first day of classes: August 18, 2008. Check the tuition and fee information to understand how and when to pay.
