Welcome to the Center for International Studies Advisement!  Our Center uses an online appointment system, GRADES FIRST (  All appointments are held in the Center for International Studies, located in the Forest Drive Bldg. Rm. 1313.

Academic Advisors are committed to:

  • Effectively communicating all the degree curriculum, academic policies, and graduation requirements,
  • Providing students with available campus resources,
  • Guiding and supporting students in developing clear and attainable education plans,
  • Monitoring and accurately documenting the student’s progress toward meeting their graduation goals,
  • Planning out the curriculum with the student and following the course rotations throughout their college years

BEFORE Your Advisement Appointment:

Who’s My Advisor?

Your academic advisor is listed on your Wings Account.  View your academic advisor through Wings by doing the following:  1) Log into, then click “WINGS” in the “My Services” box, 2) Click “Student”, 3) Click “Student Records, 4) Click “View Student Information and Assigned Advisor”, 5) Choose term and click “Submit”, 6) you should then see the name of your assigned advisor (which is listed as your “Primary Advisor”, Ms. Ann Price).

How to Make an Advising Appointment Using GradesFirst

  1. Click on GRADES FIRST link under “My Services” in
  2. Log in with your mygeorgiasouthern username and password
  3. Navigate to your Student Home screen (first tab in the top left corner)
  4. Click the “Get Advising” button on the top right.
  5. Select your advisor.  Most students will only have one advisor.  If you have multiple advisors (double majors, honors, etc.) you will have the option to choose your assigned advisor(s).
  6. Select an available date and time that works.
  7. In the “Comments” section, please note that your reason for making your appointment, if it is something other than academic advisement (i.e., graduation application, discuss current schedule, withdrawing from a class, academic success plan follow-up, etc.).
  8. Do not choose a location.  The location will be at your advisor’s office.
  9. Click the “Save Appointment” button.
  10. Student Advisement typically begins the first week in September for spring and summer classes and the first week in February for fall classes.
  11. You must meet with your academic advisor in order to get your RAN (Registration Access Number).

Students are Responsible for:

  • Getting to know your academic advisor, discussing your courses, and making sure you are on the right track
  • Discussing with your advisor secondary options and classes that can help you explore second majors, minors, electives, and other areas of interest
  • Getting to know your instructors — get connected
  • Purchasing a planner to organize your time
  • Reading your syllabus
  • Attending class every day
  • Visiting Career Services on campus
  • Visiting the Recreation Activity Center

Setting Goals

  • Consider applying for an internship
  • Plan out your study abroad experience — going abroad is the best way to widen your cultural perspective
  • Consider scholarship opportunities
