The mission of the festival is to promote cross-cultural awareness and understanding through educational, cultural, and international games and sports activities.
The festival will also increase community awareness of the different educational and cultural programs available to them at the university and from other resources.
Most importantly, the event will promote community harmony as it will bring together international students, schoolchildren, parents, business and community leaders in a positive, interactive environment which values the cultural heritage of all participants.
By going into the school system and sending one of Georgia Southern's Global Ambassadors and educating the school children, we felt that this is the way to reach the children and open their eyes to other people's cultures and take it home with them and share with their family. We want it to be an exciting event for everyone involved and we feel as though we are succeeding in accomplishing this.
Mill Creek Regional Park was chosen as the facility, because we want to become not only a community involved event but also an event that would attract people from surrounding areas.
The International Festival is a collaborative effort between the Statesboro-Bulloch Parks and Recreation, Georgia Southern University, the City of Statesboro, the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce, and the Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau.
