My academic background is in the biological sciences. I changed my career from discipline-based teacher and researcher to academic developer because of my passion for teaching and my strong conviction that students deserve the best university level learning experience we can provide. As an academic developer, I feel I can influence the quality of curriculum design, development and delivery across many subject areas. My present position is Professor and Director of Academic Development at the University of Auckland, NZ. My research interests include evaluation of the effectiveness of academic development, building leadership capability and capacity in Higher Education, and effective implementation of new technologies in teaching and learning. My most recent publication is an edited collection published by Routledge: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Academic Development: Principles and Practice.
