I am Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland, New Zealand with quality assurance responsibility for teaching in the faculty’s programmes in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and public health. I also assist in the delivery of a master programme in education for clinical educators. I completed my Doctor of Education by analysing the role of student assessment in the development of professional identity. My current research builds on my interest in the role of education in forming identity, particularly of health professionals. I belong to an international team investigating histories of academic development in Australasia and the United Kingdom. I am the Vice-President of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia.
