Interdisciplinary Project-Based Model for Enhanced Instruction
of Courses
This study examines ability of an interdisciplinary group project
to develop student’s
abilities to work successfully in groups in a creative context. Group
dynamics were investigated via interaction effects between students
in a Graphic Design and Marketing class project. A repeated measures
survey technique was used to assess student’s perceptions of group
projects and their attributes. As a result of the project, student perceptions
concerning the importance of creative contributions, as well as group
participation factors became more positive, demonstrating that interdisciplinary
group projects with students in a creative discipline offer business
students a unique “outside
the box” learning opportunity

After twenty years in years in the business world engaged in international
marketing and business development activities, I taught for three years
as a Visiting Instructor at the University of North Florida. As a result
of this rewarding experience, I returned to school and am currently
pursuing my Ph.D. in Marketing from Florida State University. My current
research focuses on international marketing strategy and corporate strategy
in emerging markets. My M.B.A. is from the Thunderbird School of Global
Management, my B.A., from the University of Iowa in Creative Writing
and Comparative literature. I also hold a 3rd level degree from the
University of Rennes II in Rennes, France.

I have a B.A. degree in Industrial Design from Fundação
Armando Álvares Penteado in São Paulo, Brazil and an M.F.A.
in Graphic Design from Iowa State University. Currently, I’m an
associate professor of graphic design and digital media at the University
of North Florida in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of
Art and Design. Professionally, I have worked as a designer in multinational
corporations as well as for corporate clients and non-profit organizations.
My currently published and creative efforts include articles on Brazilian
Design and Sustainable Design as well as public sculpture and photography.
My research interests include packaging design, green design, and multicultural
design. This summer, I will be leading a group of students to Sao Paulo,
Brazil where they will develop promotions for Espaco Illuminar, a non-profit
dedicated to educating disadvantaged single mothers.

I am currently the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development, and the
Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as an Associate
Professor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
Previously, I was the Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and
Learning at the University of Central Florida and have taught science
and technology courses at other universities and online at San Diego
State University. My current research agenda focuses on relating virtual
worlds to a historical context of informal learning settings. My undergraduate
and graduate degrees are in the field of chemistry and I earned a doctoral
degree from the University of Florida in science education.
