A Pedagogical Framework for the Scholarship of Teaching (pr-2)
Thomas Rosebrough (Union University): trosebro@uu.edu
Ann Singleton (Union University): asinglet@uu.edu
Most faculty members spend their time thinking about their disciplines. How can they become more intentional about the examination of their teaching? Thinking deeply about a personal philosophy of teaching within a framework to support this philosophy in the classroom is the presentation's focus. This session offers participants a framework for their teaching with reflective questions to facilitate thinking. The framework defines the teacher as having three distinct roles: (1) the teacher as a scholar , (2) the teacher as a practitioner , and (3) the teacher as a relater . The process used to create questions that support teaching in these roles was developed to advance faculty in their understanding of pedagogy. The presenters will share their pilot study using these questions with faculty members from different disciplines at their university. Participants will examine the framework and the supporting questions and leave with a more complete understanding of the scholarship of teaching.
