From the Vantage Point of SoTL: Educational Inquiry [pr-2]
Depending on the inquirer's theoretical orientation, discipline, and context; different kinds of inquiries are undertaken. However, taken together, in the context of SoTL, they provide a more complex (and triangulated) view of the topic than any single approach. Thus, as an under girding for our inquiry, SoTL affords us greater clarity in our understanding of educational issues and practices. The session utilizes information from a context and content analysis of over 300 SoTL articles, as it explores questions such as who is engaged in SoTL? In what kinds of inquiry are they engaged? What theoretical orientations form the basis of their inquiry? How is this inquiry manifested within and across disciplines? How does such inquiry help to improve teaching and learning? Through the use of vignettes taken from a single topic across disciplines, transformative education, the session highlights the versatility and significance of SoTL both theoretically and practically.
