Scholarships: All Honors Program student applicants will be considered for an $800 scholarship to support participation in this experience. (Scholarship recipients will use this money to pay $800 of the remaining balance of $1,400.) This trip can accept only 10 students.

Project Pura Vida! will focus primarily on volunteering in La Carpio, Costa Rica, an impoverished neighborhood where more than 40,000 residents, mostly women and children, live on the edge of a landfill near the capital of San José. Working together with the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, student volunteers will help with current community needs which include beautification projects, such as: mural and house painting, garden planting, and light construction, along with interaction with local community members, especially the children. Students will also participate on additional excursions including a guided tour of San José, Manuel Antonio National Park, Arenal Volcano and natural hot springs, Café Britt Coffee Plantation, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, and the Sarchi Artisan Center. Students will live in San Joaquín de Flores, a suburb of the capital, with host families and enjoy homemade meals as they experience a new culture and a lifetime of memories.  This trip is led by Dr. Leticia McGrath (Dept. of Foreign Languages – Spanish) and is open to all Honors Program students.

Trip Timeline: This trip will take place Saturday, March 10 to Sunday, March 18, 2018.

Flights: Students will fly from and return to Savannah. Students are responsible for getting to and from the airport.
