International Scholarships

Boren Scholarship

Overview
Boren Scholarships provide funding to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American, and the Middle East
Boren Scholars study less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili

Fields of Study
Fields which contribute to U.S. national security, including not only the traditional concerns of protecting and promoting American well-being, but also the challenges of global society, including sustainable development, environmental degradation, global disease and hunger, population growth and migration, and economic competitiveness

Length of Study
Minimum of one semester and maximum of one academic year

Award
Maximum scholarship awards are:
$10,000 for a semester
$20,000 for a full academic year 

Eligibility
Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens and applying for a study abroad experience in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
Boren Scholars must agree to work in the Federal Government in a position with national security responsibilities within three years of graduation

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Overview
Full awards for graduate and affiliate study at Cambridge University
Awards are based intellectual ability, leadership and the desire to use knowledge to improve the lives of others

Fields of Study
All fields taught at Cambridge

Length of Study
Contingent upon degree

Award
Full tuition and fees, maintenance allowance

Eligibility
Must demonstrate sustained achievement in study and excellent GPA
Academic references should speak of leadership potential, social commitment and intellectual ability

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

Overview
Offers grants for undergraduate students of limited financial means to
pursue academic studies abroad

Fields of Study
Available for all fields of study

Length of Study
Student must be participating in a study abroad program for a minimum
of four weeks and a maximum of one academic year

Award
Up to $5000 for tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and international airfare

Eligibility
Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens
Must be applying to a study abroad program eligible for undergraduate academic credit
Must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant

Campus Deadline
September 11, 2009 for Spring 2010 semester abroad
March 5, 2010 for Fall 2010 semester abroad or 2010/2011 academic year abroad

George C. Marshall Scholarship

Overview
Finances high ability American students to study for a degree in the United Kingdom
