The University Honors Program administers the 1906 Scholarships, University Honors Program Scholarships, and Honors Study Abroad Scholarships.
1906 Scholarships
The 1906 Scholars are a select group of students that exist within the University Honors Program. Each fall, 15-18 freshmen are admitted as 1906 Scholars and each of these students is awarded a full tuition scholarship including out-of-state waiver. These scholarships are made in addition to any other financial aid (including the HOPE Scholarship) students may receive from Georgia Southern University or other sources. A student must remain in good standing to retain this scholarship for all four years.
University Honors Program Scholarships
Students who meet the entrance requirements for the University Honors Program as first-semester freshmen are eligible to compete for renewable scholarships valued at $1500 per year for four years. A select group of incoming freshmen will be invited to interview for these scholarships at the Southern Scholars Showcase in December and Scholars’ Day in February. These awards are made in addition to any other financial aid (including the HOPE Scholarship) students may receive from Georgia Southern University or other sources. A student must remain in good standing to retain this scholarship for all four years.
Study Abroad Scholarships
In addition to the variety of funding opportunities provided by Georgia Southern University and the University System of Georgia, the University Honors Program currently awards scholarships to support students during study abroad programs.
The Richter Honors Study Abroad Scholarship provides $1000 to support a distinguished honors student each year for a study abroad program. This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Dr. Fred Richter, founding Director of the University Honors Program and retired English professor at Georgia Southern.
The Janena Lawson Bell Honors Study Abroad Scholarship provides $1000 to support a distinguished honors student on a study abroad program.
