First-Year Experience

Peer Academic Advisement

FYE utilizes the expertise of Peer Academic Advisors (PAAs) in the advising process. These undergraduate students are selected for their strong leadership skills and on-going campus involvement and are trained extensively in the advisement and major exploration process. While every undeclared student also meets with a graduate student or professional advisor at least once every semester until he or she declares, the PAA provides a student perspective that many undergraduates find essential.

PAAs duties include pre-advisement meetings for students with more then 30 hours and initial check-in advisement for all undeclared students visiting our office. They also help monitor the flow into and out of the office and follow up with students who have not come in for their appointments, contacting students by phone, email and even Facebook.
