Academic
Advising
Your primary resource for academic questions is your
academic advisor. Each college has an
academic advisement center, and First-Year
Experience serves as the academic home for students
without a major. Contact your advisement center for
any questions and to schedule an advisement
appointment. Georgia Southern requires all students
to be advised before registering each semester. We
do so because we believe this individual attention
is essential to the University's student-centered
mission.
But academic advising is not just a hoop to jump
through in order to collect a RAN that allows you to
register. It requires active participation on your
part! Advisement is a chance for you to ask
questions about majors and careers, and about
rationales for proper sequencing of classes as well
as about other questions you may have about getting
the most out of your academic experience at Georgia
Southern. Students should come to their advising
appointments ready to ask questions. And don't hold
out on your advisor! If you are thinking about
changing your major or taking credit elsewhere over
the summer, it's essential that you let your advisor
know. Doing so allows him or her to give you the
best advice possible.
