First-Year Experience

Quality Enhancement Plan

As part of the University's reaffirmation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 2005, Georgia Southern University submitted a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that focused on student engagement, and specifically, first-year student engagement.  The goals of the QEP are:

  • Freshmen will apply behaviors that demonstrate their responsibilities as engaged learners.
  • Freshmen will practice behaviors that lead to lifelong learning.
  • Freshmen will evaluate their responsibilities as engaged members in diverse communities.

These QEP goals have driven further self-study processes (the Foundations of Excellence® project and the FYE Faculty Task Force), and significant improvements to the First-Year Experience at Georgia Southern, including the transition of GSU 1210 to FYE 1220, and the creation of both the Conversations with Professors program the day before classes begin and the second-semester Global Citizens course.
