Congratulations

national for the 2012-2013 academic year! Congrats as well
to our May 2012 graduates!
General Information
Phi Eta Sigma is a
national honor society
for first-year college students. Our goal is to recognize and
promote
academic and service excellence among first-year students. The oldest and largest freshman honor society,
Phi Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois on March
22, 1923. We now have more than 350 chapters throughout the
United States and more than 1,000,000 inducted members.
Pictured to the right is the stage party at the 2011 induction ceremony, along with FYE Administrative Secretary Debbie Keenan, who was inducted as an honorary member.
Because of the increasing performance of Georgia
Southern students overall, the criteria for invitation
to membership increased to a 3.6 GPA for
first-year students enrolled full time beginning in Fall 2008.
On February 26, 2012, the Georgia Southern chapter initiated
448 students in a beautiful ceremony at the Performing
Arts Center.
Georgia Southern marked its 20th year as an
active chapter on October 19, 2011.
Members who chose to be active in the
Phi Eta Sigma student organization work in conjunction with the
Conversations with Professors program to promote first-year experience on campus
and are involved with community service activities in the
Statesboro area.
For questions about the organization, contact
chapter president
Victoria Burnette or faculty advisor Dr. Chris
Caplinger.
