Transformation Through Collaboration: The PCEST VisionThe mission of the Project for Civic Engagement and Social Transformation is to bring together university members – faculty, students, and staff — and community members — local organizations, activists, and religious groups – in order to develop mutually beneficial, long-term relationships and projects. Through our university-community alliance, we will define, create, and sustain projects within the Bulloch county area. This collaboration can thus effectively combine locally-focused research and needs assessment with current scholarship to develop both community-informed university curricula and public programs of benefit to the community. This project will bridge educational and civic arenas by, for example, coordinating curricula and public programs about Georgia’s diverse local histories, cultures, and politics and the way they are inflected by our global contexts. In this way, we believe we can forge the new relationships through which we can positively intervene into the myriad social problems facing our community. |
