Wimba Classroom - Computer Requirements

Wimba Classroom can be used to enhance any learning environment, on nearly any computer. There are some specific requirements for your computer, and some additional accessories you might consider purchasing.

You will need to run the following test to make sure you computer is ready. This test can also diagnose and help you corrent nearly all problems with Wimba Classroom. The test is interactive and can be completed in a matter of minutes. Make sure you have your headset plugged in, and that your computer's volume is not muted.

Audio setup - what to buy

In order to best participate in the interactive audio session of a Wimba Classroom, you must have a headset (headphones + mic) or a microphone and speakers attached to your computer. We recommend using a headset (not a mic and external speakers) as this will make for the best audio experience. A headset can be purchased online or at most major retail stores for about $15-40, and you can use either a USB or Stereo (3.5mm mini) connector. To test if your headset is working, simply run the Setup Wizard.

What if I don't have a headset or mic and speakers? Can I still interact with participants? YES! Each Classroom includes the capability to bridge in a telephone. Once you have logged into the room, click on the telephone icon to view the dial-in information.

Video setup - what to buy

In order to participate in the video portion of Wimba Classroom, you must have an installed and functional USB webcam. NOTE: If you are unsure how to setup and install your webcam, please consult the manufacturer's included documentation.

A USB webcam can be purchased online or at most major retail stores for abotu $30-90. We recommend Logitech brand cameras, but the chart below lists the supported models:
