Seminars

Seminars are offered on a variety of topics throughout the year. To view the list of seminars (workshops, events, etc.) offernings, click the Calendar link in the navigation menu.

Faculty Learning Communities

Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) are faculty groups, either topic or cohort based, often interdisciplinary, that actively collaborate on the FLC’s topic for an academic year.  Topics can be focused upon teaching, learning, research, or aspects of academic life with each FLC creating its own mission, goals, agenda, schedule of meetings and events, etc.  Members, as relevant, apply what they learn to courses, assess the results, and the FLC as a whole disseminates the results of its work to colleagues and the campus in a manner of its choosing.

FLCs are a cornerstone of the CET’s new peer-based, dissemination model of professional faculty development. Read more about FLCs and how to join…

Reading Roundtable

Each semester the CET sponsors a faculty book discussion group called Reading Roundtable (RR).  A different book is read each semester and faculty are invited to join by the start of a semester so the books, provided courtesy of the CET, can be ordered.  The RR meets several times during the semester, according to the schedules of its members, to discuss the book.  The books for this semester are:

  • Teaching What You Don’t Know
  • Optimizing Teaching and Learning: Practicing Pedagogical Research
  • Managing the Large College Class: A Guidebook for Instructors with Multitudes
  • Encountering Faith in the Classroom: Turning Difficult Discussions into Constructive Engagement
  • Rights and Wrongs in the College Classroom: Ethical Issues in Postsecondary Teaching
  • How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci: Seven Steps to Genius Every Day
  • Science Fiction Classics, The Time Machine, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451
  • Advice for New Faculty Members
