Creating a Poster with PowerPoint

Steve Bonham • Center for Excellence in Teaching
Georgia Southern University

PowerPoint is a great environment for creating professional posters for use in your classrooms or for professional conferences. PowerPoint provides tools for placing text, images (jpgs, gifs & clipart), charts, tables, etc. into your display. See my poster project (saved as a jpeg) in a new window for a visual that overviews what we'll do in this workshop.

You can create a one-slide poster that is up to 56" x 36" (landscape or portrait orientation). The "usual" size being 48" x 36". Or you may create two slides that will provide two facing posters (total size depending upon layout selected - see typical conference options below). There are downloadable templates available for options: A | B | C | E below. NOTE:Each of these PowerPoint files is about 1MB.

This web page provides the viewer with a step-by-step "how to" and a lot of related poster design advice as well. If you are a Georgia Southern University faculty or staff member you can print your instructional/teaching resource here at the CET for free. Contact us by phone (681-0049) or e-mail (cet@georgiasouthern.edu) to make an appointment. Please allow at least 24 hours (M-F) notice. Sorry, we do not have glossy (photo quality) paper and we do not laminate posters.
